Bridal make-up tips – what you need to pay attention to for better photographs

So, you’ve booked your photographer, you’ve got the dress sorted, now its time to think about your wedding day make-up.

First and foremost I would highly recommend booking a professional make-up artist, a pro will know how to apply make-up for the camera.

Start researching the types of look you’d like to go for, you want to emphasise your eyes but you do not want to go too dark, your bridal make-up should be different to your everyday make-up. Plastering it on for the sake of the camera is a myth. Most wedding photographers will shoot your portraits in natural light so make-up that is too heavy will look obvious. You do not want to look back at your wedding photographs and not recognise the bride! The same can be said about make-up that is in trend, glittery eyeliner and purple lipstick may look great this year but in 20 years time you don’t want to be cringing through your wedding album! As a typical rule, you want your make-up to be slightly heavier than normal to look its best in the photographs. For example, I would go for a lipstick that’s maybe two shades brighter so that it doesn’t look too washed out.

A make-up trial is a must, wear a pale coloured shirt so you can see what it will look like against your dress and be sure to take a photograph of yourself in natural light so you can see how you will look. Having a make-up trial is also a great chance for you to do a pre wedding photoshoot with your photographer 🙂
